Exploring Emotional Regulation Through Musical Connection
Led by Rebecca Beavis
This training session explores how music can be used as a powerful tool to support emotional awareness and regulation in children. You’ll learn how to musically “meet” a young person where they are emotionally—matching their emotional state through sound—and then gently guide them toward calm, focus, or engagement.
We will explore:
- How sound and music can reflect emotional states
- Using musical elements (tempo, dynamics, rhythm, melody) to attune to and shift emotions
- Practical strategies for musical co-regulation in both one-to-one and group settings
- Creating emotionally responsive musical environments
- Supporting children’s self-awareness and emotional vocabulary through music
This session is particularly relevant for those working in Early Years, KS1, SEND, and therapeutic or nurture-based roles, but all educators are welcome. Expect hands-on exploration, reflective discussion, and tools you can apply immediately in your setting.
