Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub are thrilled to welcome back Mark De-Lisser to work with young people aged 13-19 in full time education in Norfolk and Suffolk who show an aptitude for singing.

After a first successful year with 120 young people from across Norfolk and Suffolk joining together to experience the power of singing on mass. We are delighted to launch year two of this project, which we are excited to open up to five more educational settings across the county to join.

For the academic year 2024/25 Echoes of the East will be working towards leading a large-scale singing event at the Royal Norfolk Show on Wednesday 25th June, 2025. The Echoes vocal group will lead thousands of young people from across Norfolk and Suffolk in a feel-good, mass singing opportunity.

Young people will work with Mark on three occasions to produce six songs, especially arranged by Mark. Music leads will be supported with full resources to work on these tracks in their own educational settings.

FAQs

When are the dates of the rehearsals?

  • Thursday 27th February 1pm-4pm
  • Wednesday 30th April 1pm-4pm
  • Friday 20th June 1pm-4pm

Venue

  • The Royal Norfolk Showground

Do my singers need to read music?

  • No, but we expect that every student participating in this project has prior experience of singing either solo or in a group and wants to progress their vocal knowledge. We are looking to create a ‘show group’ therefore we will require performers to be animated and portray the music they are singing visually through performance.

Will I need to practice with my students?

  • Yes, prior to the first rehearsal we ask that you look at three of the songs, which will be available from mid-January, Mark will introduce the remaining three songs at the first rehearsal. Full resources will be available to support you. All students will be expected to sing the six songs by the end of the second rehearsal without lyrics.

Do I have to attend all rehearsals and the performance in June?

  • Yes! Please do not register for this opportunity unless you can commit to the three-afternoon rehearsals in school time and the final performance at the Royal Norfolk Show on Wednesday 25th June, 2025, during the school day.

Will the vocal group be supported with tracks or a live band?

  • The vocal group will be supported by a live, small band.

What are the expected outcomes and legacy of this project?

  • To bring like-minded people together who would not normally get the opportunity to sing together.
  • To work with a nationally renowned choral director who will be able to nurture the vocal group and provide professional support to Music Leads supporting the vocalists.
  • This is the second year of this project, which will see another 50 young people join the group. Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub hope to continue to expand this opportunity, year on year to offer young people who enjoy singing a unique experiencing of mass music making, whilst also looking to be recognised nationally.
  • Educational settings would then have access to the resources to utilise in their own settings and replicate the pieces learnt.
