This new choir for ages 16-25 aims to have popular music at its core, with performance opportunities at different stages of the year. While you’re singing and meeting new people, you’ll be learning about your voice, how to care for it, and upping your music skills in a relaxed environment.

Guiding you on this journey will be Emma O’Reilly, an independent singer-songwriter who has toured all over Ireland, the UK, and the US with her original material. She has worked with and directed choirs over many years, performing everywhere from the Royal Albert Hall, to festivals, and more unusual spaces like the Natural History Museusm of Ireland, performing everything from Beethoven’s 9th to Daft Punk’s Discovery album.  As an active vocal coach, Emma is passionate about empowering young people to fostering a deep, positive connection to their voices.

No matter what level you’re at as a singer, you will be most welcome! You can come along for a taster class any time – we’d love to see you.

Bach: Project 48

In the space of a year, pianist Libby Burgess performs Bach’s epic “48”, 48 times – once in each of England’s 48 counties.

Bach wrote this massive and magnificent collection:

“for the benefit and use of the musical youth eager to learn, as well as for the special pastime of those already skilful in this study.”

As well as sharing this remarkable music around the country, the project is fundraising for musical charities who provide much-needed help to those same categories of people today – musicians young and old.

The nominated Project 48 charities are: Help Musicians, Youth Music, Live Music Now and Future Talent. Between them they help hundreds of thousands of musicians every year, offering financial support, creating opportunities, addressing inequalities, and altogether safeguarding the future of the music world.

The Well-Tempered Clavier is widely considered to be a masterpiece of Western art, only rarely performed in its entirety. In 1722 Bach published a prelude and a fugue in each of the twelve major and twelve minor keys (Book 1), and twenty years later he repeated the process (Book 2). Each of ‘The 48’ lasts only a few minutes, but between them they explore a wealth of characters, styles, and moods, representing not only the diversity of musical language available to the composer at the time, but also exploring the whole gamut of human emotional experience.

Pianist Libby Burgess is well-known on concert stages across Britain, playing in the country’s major halls and festivals, on Radio 3, and on a range of recordings. Praised by The Observer for her ‘warm, sensitive pianism’, she collaborates with many of the UK’s finest instrumentalists and singers when not taking on crazy country-wide solo projects. Libby is Artistic Director of New Paths Music, is Co-Artistic Director with Martin Roscoe of the Beverley Chamber Music Festival, was formerly Head of Keyboard at Eton College, and is also in demand as coach, speaker and writer.

All tickets are priced at £10 and seats are unreserved.  Under 18s are free.  Doors open at 6.45pm.  Tickets available here.

Sing To Dippy!

We are inviting pupils from your school to come to Norwich Cathedral and SING TO DIPPY this October!

Please note all dates for this event are now fully subscribed.

Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s iconic Diplodocus cast, will be taking up residence in Norwich Cathedral’s Nave from July until Saturday 30 October 2021. Norwich Cathedral is the eighth and final stop for the ‘Dippy on Tour’ exhibition that aims to inspire people of all ages to engage more with nature and explore the natural world on their doorsteps.

In partnership with the Norfolk Music Hub, Norwich Cathedral have commissioned a new piece of music – ‘Creation Song’ – to celebrate Dippy’s visit to Norwich. Composed by leading British choral composer Bob Chilcott, the piece has been written for a choir of Primary School children to perform alongside Norwich Cathedral Choir, accompanied by the mighty Cathedral organ.

We are inviting all children in Key Stage 2 to participate in these concerts, which will include other fun children’s songs based on the themes associated with the visit of Dippy the Dinosaur – Creation, the environment, sustainability and care for our planet. The finale of each concert will be the première performances of ‘Creation Song’. All of this will take place, of course, with the children sat around Dippy, the huge Diplodocus skeleton, that will fill the Nave of Norwich Cathedral!
