Community Performance at Ipswich Corn Exchange

Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub are partnering with Ipswich Minster to offer 5 primary schools in Ipswich the opportunity to rehearse and perform together to open a community performance on Friday 27th June 2025!

Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub will work with the registered schools to rehearse and lead the performance.


FAQs

How many young people can I bring?

  • We are able to accommodate 30 Key Stage 2 students from 5 schools across the Borough of Ipswich.

Is there a cost for my school to be involved?

  • No, this is fully supported by Norfolk & Suffolk Music Hub, although we cannot pay transport costs to and from Ipswich Corn Exchange.

Can families watch the performance on Friday 27th June?

  • Yes, families will be able to purchase subsidised tickets. A code will be shared with schools for family members to utilise.

What will my school be doing?

  • Your group of 30 will be singing with a total of 150 young people in a mass singing opportunity to open up the performance. This performance will last roughly 10 minutes.

Will my young people need to stay after the performance?

  • Your young people will need to stay and watch the first half of the performance and be collected by their family in the interval, at around 8.30pm. At this time, they can either stay with their family, if the family are in the audience, or be collected from the venue.

Will teachers be expected to attend with the young people?

  • Yes, teachers will remain responsible for their group of young people throughout the rehearsals and the performance.

What are the dates of the rehearsals?

  • Thursday 22nd May, 2pm-2.45pm (online)
  • Thursday 5th June, 2pm-2.45pm (online)
  • Friday 27th June, 1.30pm-2.30pm (at Ipswich Corn Exchange)

Do I need to attend every rehearsal?

  • Yes

What is the rehearsal schedule?

  • You will be expected to attend two online rehearsals for 40 minutes per session
  • You will then be given two face-to-face, 45 minute sessions in schools with Tom Appleton, who will be rehearsing the performance with the young people and conducting on the day
  • You will also need to bring your young people to the Corn Exchange for a rehearsal on Friday 27th June, from 1.30pm-2.30pm, where all the young people involved in this project will rehearse together.
  • Please note you will need to provide your own transport or walk.

What is the theme of the music the group will be singing?

  • ‘This is Me’ – based on identity

Will the young people be able to use lyric sheets on the day?

  • No, there is the expectation that music leads within the schools that are involved will ensure the performers are rehearsed and know the lyrics off by heart, in addition to the work that Tom Appleton is doing with the young people.

When will I hear if my school have been successful in gaining a place for this project?

  • We will be able to confirm with all schools by Wednesday 30th April.
