Fee Remission

Norfolk Settings

Norfolk Music Service works in partnership with schools and educational settings to promote high quality music education through instrumental and vocal teaching. Weekly lessons are tailored to meet the needs, aspirations and interests of all young people and can be provided on an individual, paired or group basis

Charges:

  • £44 per hour
  • £22 per 30 minutes
  • £14.70 per 20 minutes
  • 5 students sharing a 30 minute weekly lesson £4.40

There is a fee remissions policy in place for Instrumental Tuition in Norfolk settings:

  • 40% reduction in fees for instrumental tuition and Norfolk Music Service Ensemble pupils in receipt of Free School Meals for one shared lesson per week, on one instrument
  • 40% reduction in fees for instrumental tuition for Children in Care
  • 50% reduction for group tuition accessing their first year of learning an instrument for 6 pupils accessing a 30-minute lesson for 33 weeks as part of the Kick Starters programme. Please note there is a maximum buy in of 1 hour per school under Kick Starters remissions.

Please note lessons are based on a Service Level Agreement of a minimum of 33 weeks per academic year.

Remission can only be used to fund one instrument and should be in a group, wherever practicably possible. If demand exceeds budget, eligible applications will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Eligibility for the remissions scheme will be verified via the Synergy system upon receipt of a completed application.

Deadlines for applications for fee remission:

  • 2nd October 2026
  • 29th January 2027
  • 30th April 2027

Suffolk Settings

Remission of fees can be applied to all activities provided in Suffolk by the Suffolk County Music Service including (but not exclusively):

  • County Music Groups (CMG) – 50% reduction
  • Suffolk Youth Music (SYM) Ensembles – 50% reduction
  • Instrumental & Vocal Tuition in Music Centres – 50% reduction
  • Instrument Hire – 100% reduction
  • Instrumental & Vocal Tuition in Schools (Direct Billing to Parents Contract ONLY) – 50% reduction

Remissions can be applied to Suffolk County Music Service activity for young people in receipt of free school meals, children in care and those from low income families.
