Big Norfolk Holiday Fun July 2025 – Create Your Own Beats (Music Technology)

Norfolk & Suffolk Music Hub, in partnership with Norfolk County Council’s Holiday Activity Fund, are delighted to bring two days of Music Technology for young people aged between 12 and 16 to Norwich!

These workshop days aim to bring young people from across Norfolk with an interest in Music Technology together to learn to use a professional Digital Audio Workstation, Cubase Pro, to create an electronic music track. We will look at arrangement, sequencing, editing, mixing and production, and students will be able to take home their finished tracks as an mp3 file.

Day 1: Getting to Know Cubase and making electronic beats and building arrangements.
Introduction to Cubase and getting to know the different features of the software. We will be looking at programming kick drums, snares and hi-hats to create interesting patterns and beats and how to add drum fills, percussion layers and variations to create interest. This will form the basis of our track.

Day 2: Vocal sampling, effects and building arrangements
Building on what was completed in the previous session, we will be adding vocal samples, effects and other layers and sounds to complete the production of the track. We will also be looking at some basic mixing techniques involving EQ, panning and balancing. At the end, we will export the finished track as an MP3 for you to take away.

Young people engaging in this project will be tasked with creating a piece of music for the opening credits of a new TV show!

There are only 12 spaces available each day so please do not delay in registering.

The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun – Active Norfolk scheme is being run by Norfolk County Council and is free to all families with children aged 5-16, who are eligible for means-tested free school meals.
