Please note this is a 3-half day course. If registering, you must attend all of the three days. Spaces are strictly limited. If you do not attend one of the sessions, you will be invoiced £100 to cover the costs of the sessions.
This taught course comprises three half-day webinar training sessions across one term. These will be supported with access to online learning materials, and challenges, ideas and activities to try out in the classroom, culminating in a short assignment. On completion of the assignment, participants will be awarded the Music Education Solutions® Secondary Music Leadership Certificate.
This programme aims to provide tools to support teachers in developing a thriving music department and delivering a high-quality curriculum appropriate to their local context. It is suitable for anyone teaching music in a secondary school, anywhere in the world, but will be of particular relevance to those who are currently leading a department or working towards their first head of department role.
Session 1
Strategic Leadership of Music in your school
Tuesday 27th February, 1pm-4pm
In this session we look at:
- How to develop a plan to increase high quality engagement in school
- How to advocate for Music with SLT, other colleagues and external parties, including parents
- How to work with instrumental teachers, teaching assistants, music hubs and other external
providers
Session 2
Leading inclusive progression pathways
Tuesday 12th March, 1pm-4pm
In this session we look at:
- Planning your curriculum at KS3 to support progression onto courses at KS4 and 5; to satisfy an Ofsted Deep Dive; to be inclusive
- Choosing your exam board options: VQs, GCSEs and A-Level
- Planning your extra-curricular to support strong progression
Session 3
Assessing and tracking progress in your school
Tuesday 26th March, 1pm-4pm
In this session we look at:
- Meaningful assessment to measure skills, knowledge and understanding
- Recording and communicating data to staff, to parents and to students
- Assessing and tracking Performing, Composing and Listening

Please note: your educational setting will be invoiced £100 for any session that I do not attend. This course comprises of 3 sessions; 27/02/24, 12/03/23 and 26/03/24.
