The Life of the Sea: King’s Lynn residency with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE), in collaboration with Orchestras Live and Norfolk Music Hub, is delighted to be returning to King’s Lynn with a project for KS2 pupils called ‘The Life of the Sea’ in the Summer Term of 2024.

We are looking for six schools in years 4-6 to join the afternoon performance at 1.30pm*, with a maximum of 2 classes per participating school, and a maximum of three staff per class of 30.

* This performance will not be open to the public as the capacity will be taken up with participating students.

FAQs

What will pupils be doing?

  • These interactive concerts include pupils singing a sea shanty and a song about climate change and either playing or performing body percussion in a storm piece alongside the OAE.
  • The concert will be set like a 70’s chat show called Tonight with Adam Courting and the children will be the Studio Audience.
  • The show will feature an actor, Adam and singer, Tim who will act and sing to tell the story of Tim’s “discovery” of The Great Pacific Garbage patch.
  • Woven into our story will be baroque songs and instrumental pieces played by the OAE as well as brand new music performed by your children.

Dates:

  • Once registered a representative from each school will be expected to attend the Teacher Training session on Wednesday 17th April from 4pm-5.30pm. The venue will be in a King’s Lynn Primary School. There you will receive access to the resources to rehearse with your school.
  • May/June 2024: half day workshop in each school (dates to be arranged at the training session)
  • Wednesday 10th July: Concert day!
    • 1pm- 2.30pm rehearsal and concert at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange

What’s the cost?

  • We will be asking each school to contribute £200 to take part in this project and the remaining costs will be met by OL, NMH and the OAE.
